FAQs & Policies

  • FamilyWorks Counseling offers in person, telephone, and/or virtual sessions for all Connecticut residents. It is up to you how you choose to access FamilyWorks’ services.

  • All 50-minute individual, parenting, and family sessions are $215.

  • No, unfortunately, we do not accept insurance. I am an “Out of Network” provider. However, I can provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company for your therapy sessions.

  • Only parents attend the intake session. No children are needed at this time.

If your child is young (age 4-9 years), you may be asked to come in for a few minutes of their first individual session to allow him/her to get familiar with this new experience. Generally, the older kids/teens get comfortable quickly; you can relax in the waiting area.

  • It depends on your child’s needs. Most attend once per week. Some come more frequently, especially if they are in crisis or have more imminent needs.

  • I cannot put a time frame on the therapy process, as every child or teen makes progress at their own rate. What I can tell you is we shall both know when we can step it down a notch and when your child is ready to terminate therapy.

  • Yes I offer parenting work in conjunction with working with your child so you can best support them at home.

  • I stay in close contact with parents and offer broad strokes of information around topics we discuss or on what skills I am teaching in session. I never give parents specific details about what your child communicates to me—as that would be a breach of your child’s trust.

What you need to know

Payment Policy

Payment is due at time of service. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, or credit cards. Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance. FamilyWorks is an "Out of Network Provider." Please check with your insurance company prior to your initial intake session to better understand your coverage, if you have a deductible to meet, and what percentage of your fee may be reimbursable.

All clients receive an invoice the night prior to their session, attached to a "Session Reminder” email which can be submitted to your insurance company. A sliding fee scale may be available for those who require additional financial assistance.

Cancellation Policy

At FamilyWorks, we require 24-hours notice for cancellation— with exception to illness, inclement weather, or family emergencies. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please email, call, or text the office to let us know in advance.

NOTE: If you do not give 24-hour notice, you will be charged in full for the appointment.

Confidentiality Policy

Complete confidentiality of all information shared between client and therapist will be maintained at all times in order to foster a trusting, positive rapport. According to Connecticut state law, the only exceptions to confidentiality are cases involving a client’s potential desire to harm oneself, to harm another person, or regarding cases involving disclosure about abuse and/or neglect. In these cases, parents, social services, or local police authorities must be notified to ensure safety.

Health Policy

If you or your child have been ill recently with fever, congestion, gastrointestinal issues, cough, sore throat, or extreme fatigue, please be advised we can meet virtually or reconvene the following week. Feel free to get in touch via email, text, or telephone once you are aware. There is no charge for missed sessions due to illness.

NOTE: Before entering the therapy room, all clients must wash their hands outside of the office at the sink to the left of the office door.
